SOFA stands for “SOlution for FAsteners” and is a design method aimed at enlarging applications’ scope to support Engineers in finding solutions that go beyond what is covered in EN 1992-4. Hilti's SOFA method for anchor design is only valid for Hilti anchor products.

The provisions in SOFA are based on solid research and Hilti’s broad anchoring expertise. They also undergo extensive review by technical key experts before implementation into PROFIS Engineering based on EN 1992-4 design parameters.

Hilti's SOFA method supports Engineers find solutions in three main design cases:
1. Design provisions for tension, shear and a combination of both, for anchor layouts beyond the scope of EN 1992-4.

2. Improved shear design provisions when close to the edge to better utilize the fastening for the failure mode “concrete edge failure” up to 3x3 anchor layouts.

3. Design provisions for anchor stand-off configurations which are not covered in EN 1992-4.

*For both points (1) and (2), in some cases PROFIS Engineering requires filling the gap between fastener and steel plate to guarantee that all fasteners are loaded equally.
